Brief info

The youngest of nine siblings, Sopandu Manurung was born on October 2, 1993, in Simananduk Motung, a hill village near Lake Toba. He holds a degree in Ethnomusicology from the Faculty of Cultural Sciences, Universitas Sumatera Utara (2015), and a Master’s in Performing and Visual Arts Studies from Universitas Gadjah Mada (2021), supported by an LPDP scholarship.

He is an active practitioner and instructor of Batak Toba music, passionate about cultural preservation and musicology. His artistic experiences include participation in the National Traditional Youth Music Festival (2012), the National Traditional Children’s Music Festival (2014), and representing Indonesia at the ASEAN Youth Ensemble in Bangkok (2016). He is a co-founder of Kawan Pustaha, a learning collective focused on Batak culture.
